Genesis Livestock Services | About Us
Genesis Livestock came into being in 1992 as a result of a move to the great state of Wyoming. I had lived in Michigan all my life but Wyoming was always a place I thought I would like to be. I worked for a time on a cow/calf operation east of Casper helping care for 1,000 mother cows. I learned a lot about raising cattle there, where it rarely rains, irrigation is a daily activity in summers, and wind becomes your friend and nemesis.
My Agriculture/Animal Science degree from Michigan state University and small time cattle experience was good, but learning on a "real" ranch where upwards of 2000 head of good commercial cattle run was the icing on the cake and a real education in "Cattle Reality 101" !!
After living in several locations in Wyoming, I most recently lived in beautiful Cody on small acreage where I practiced intense rotational grazing with the Lowlines and other cattle.
I first discovered the Lowline cattle breed at the National Western Stock Show in 1999 where the early importers of the breed had set up a display. I was hooked! I began by using Lowline semen on Angus cows and producing percentage Lowlines from them. Eventually, I progressed and added to both the Lowline herd and also added BueLingo cows to breed to my own purchased herd bull, AFB Fitz S219.
I became very involved in the showing of my Lowlines and produced multiple champions at some of the largest livestock expos in the country. I also served as a Director on the Board of the American Lowline Registry.
In September, 2003, I moved back home to Michigan to a small farm east of Lansing. I sold several head of cattle but did bring seven with me. Most recently, I dispersed all the cattle and am using my creative skills and cattle knowledge to offer busy cattle people a place on the internet to sell their cattle.
As with all worthwhile endeavors, this one has evolved to include pages for cattle related equipment as well as the new page for Stock Dogs. The dogs are such an integral part of livestock care and management that this seemed like an obvious addition.
Although I miss looking out the window and seeing good cattle in my "backyard", I am enjoying the opportunity to take my business with me wherever I go and the freedom to travel and enjoy my wonderful family. I'm vicariously still in the cattle business, which I love, and have expanded my offerings to including promoting your cattle and sales with email blasts created just for you.
Let me know if I can help you expand your reach through the internet by using my website and internet skills!
